Long Clawson is a thriving village community on the Leicestershire/Nottinghamshire border, 6 miles North West of Melton Mowbray, in the heart of the Vale of Belvoir.
It is well known for its main street which is over a mile long and includes 14 right angled bends!

Missing Post Box

What's happened to the post box in the centre of the village? I was very upset to see that it has been bricked up. It is such a shame that the historic centre of the village is losing facilties. Will we get it back? Or do we have to go elsewhere to post our letters?.....
Whilst it is annoying that the post box at The Sands has gone, there are three other boxes in the village that I can think of, at The Dairy, the bottom of Sandpit Lane, and at Elms Farm. We use the post less as many of us have e-mails, and a lot of us eat too much and exercise too little. So let's not make a fuss about this one. And perhaps there's a learned official somewhere ready to declare that a village with four post boxes must be Category 1 for expansion.....

In what way would Long Clawson have been effected if the open cast coal mining , proposed some years ago, had gone ahead? Please add your comments.
