News and Events This topics under this section give you the latest news, and the list the events we know about that are happening in and around the village.

"What's On" tells you about all the events coming up.

The "Nearby Events" option is obviously for events that may be of interest to the residents of Long Clawson, but are not actually happening in the village.

Click on "This Month" in the menu on the left to show a calendar of this month's activities.

"The Clawson Year" is an overview of the whole year from which you can see what days things are happending on.

If you are running an event, or simply know about one in or around the village, simply click on "Submit News" and tell us all about it.

News and Events Local Down's Syndrome International Swimmer Andrew (Andy) Banks of Harby is walking the 95 mile West Highland Way to raise funds for the Great Britain squad competing in the Downs Syndrome World Swimming Championships to be held in Taiwan in October 2010.

The Down Syndrome International Swimming Organisation (DSISO), whose moto is Ability not Disability, provides the opportunity for Down's Syndrome swimmers to compete at World class level. The GB squad needs to raise in the region of £50,000 to cover costs.

The walk will be a major achievement for an individual with Downs Syndrome, however Andy is a remarkable young man, allthough more acquainted with being in the swimming pool, will rise to the challenge with a smile on his face to raise money for "his team". He will be accompanied by his father, Keith, and his good friend Martyn Turner from Long Clawson.

Temporary suspension of Refuse Collections
Posted by: Martyn on Wednesday, January 06, 2010 - 08:12 PM GMT
alt1
News and Events Melton Borough Council have today made the following announcement. Please help by passing the relevant information to friends and neighbours as quickly as possible.

Dear All,
(Refuse) Collections have had to be suspended today due to the dangerous road conditions.
They will be restarted as soon as possible. Verdant will restart the collections from the point they stopped.
If they are able to restart the collections this week they will be continuing the work on Saturday.
If they are unable to restart the collections until next week, brown bin collections will be suspended until all backlog has been cleared and the crews will continue to work on Saturdays.

We have issued a press release and ensured the information is on the front page of our web site, which will be updated with any changes.

Claire Matchett

Depot Coordinator (Environmental Maintenance)

If you are expecting a black bin collection on Friday, you should place the bin ready for collection, though it is unlikely it will be collection on that day. If it is not collected Friday, please leave it out ready for collection, as MBC will be trying to catch up with the refuse collections a.s.a.p. Recycling boxes WILL be collected when the bins are emptied.

Collie puppies
Posted by: Martyn on Thursday, January 22, 2009 - 10:20 PM GMT

News and Events I live in Melton Mowbray, husband works in Clawson

Could you help or direct me?

My husband used to be a postman and covered Long Clawson many years ago, getting to know the farmers etc.

We got our dog "collie" from Clawson, and unfortunately she has passed away.

There has been so much change in Clawson and would like to know if you could point me in the direction of any collie puppies for sale.

Does anyone know anyone who's dog is expecting or has just had a litter

Thanks for reading this email
Mrs Elliott

Air Ambulance bags
Posted by: Martyn on Monday, January 19, 2009 - 08:53 PM GMT
alt1
News and Events Hi Just thought that people in the village might like to know that the recent plastic bags that came round, for the Air Ambulance, for clothes collections are actually kosher!

We are constantly being told that we ought to watch out for bogus companies who send these bags out just to profit themselves, well I contacted the charity and it was confirmed that the collection company is in fact working for them, so tell everyone to clear out their clutter, clothes and cardigans for this great charity, especially as spring is just around the corner!!

Cheers all!

Santa on the Trike
Posted by: Martyn on Wednesday, February 06, 2008 - 08:28 PM GMT

News and Events My name is Howard Brooks of Nether Broughton.

I would just like to thank all the people who donated to Santa on the Trike over Xmas period who saw me and took photos and donated.

I raised just over £1000, £600 to the Parkinsons Society and £400 to Long Clawson Surgery.

I aim to keep raising funds as some of you know I have Parkinsons.

So watch out for the Easter Bunny on the Trike.

Again many thanks to all of Clawson.

Howard Brooks
