Clawson Lodge
Posted by: Martyn on Tuesday, October 09, 2012 - 08:26 AM BST

History I am researching the Hart's who lived in Long Clawson and were farmers.

Mary Hart lived at Clawson Lodge in 1871 and farmed 120 acres after the death of her husband in 1870. Prior to that the family lived at Harts Lodge Milton Road.

Has anyone got any pictures of Clawson Lodge? Would it be possible to forward them to webmaster@long-clawson.com and any other details you may have of the Hart family or Hart's Lodge. I have traced them back to 1794, with the birth of Richard Hart who married Mary Cooke in 1821, and his parents were Thomas Hart and Mary, but no dates as yet.

Thank you

Clawsons in Long Clawson?
Posted by: Martyn on Sunday, October 07, 2012 - 08:27 AM BST

History Hello! My name is Christine Mikeska and, on my mother's side, I'm of the Clawson clan. I'm American but my great uncle has done quite a bit of genealogical research and concluded that our family most likely originated in Long Clawson, England and before that, Denmark. It was through his research that I became aware of Long Clawson and have always been interested in the place itself.

I am currently a freshman archaeology/anthropology student at Boston University and for my Anthropology class I have a project in which I come up with a research project and submit a proposal (without actually having to do the field work and actual project). I was thinking of perhaps doing the significance of land to a culture or the bond that people feel toward the land and I thought that Long Clawson would be an interesting place to set the project, considering the population is so small yet there's so much history. From what I know, and this may be completely wrong, the Danish came and took over half of England sometime during the middle ages and Long Clawson was one of their settlements and with that settlement came the Clawsons themselves. I was wondering if there are still any Clawsons living in the village itself? Of course, the project would still be feasible if not but if so it would be an interesting dicotomy to study a people who were originally Danish but then came to England and felt such a connect to the land that they stayed for over a thousand years.

Any info you can give would be much appreciated!

Thank you,
Christine Mikeska

Please email webmaster@long-clawson.com with any information and it will be passed on, thanks.

Musson family

History I have looked through your Long Clawson website many times now and am interested in the photographs of the 'Musson House' within the History / Clawson Folk folder.

I now know that William Musson the local Butcher ( circa 1900 ) is one of my ancestors, along with his family. I have been able to make connections between my own line and Williams line using the Ancestry site, within reasonable doubt.

If anyone has any further information on the Musson families within Clawson over the years, I would be very interested.

This would give my father great pleasure in knowing we have definite connections to the people in the photo's and can be recorded for posterity.

Best Regards

Danny Musson

Vincent Pullin Littler of Long Clawson
Posted by: Martyn on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 - 07:46 PM GMT

History Hello, I am compiling a history file for a 1937 MG SA which I own, one of the owners was a Vincent Pullin Littler of Long Clawson who signed the registration book in 1958. His signature is followed by MRCVS, so he may have been a local vet or retired. All the details of this car have been lost prior to Mr Littler owning it so he really is my starting point. I would like some advice on the best way to tackle this please as I do not wish my enquiries to be insensitive. regards John McEwen.

Please help by using the comments link or send an email to the webmaster@long-clawson.com for onward transmission.

1841-1881 census enquiry for MANN
Posted by: Anonymous on Saturday, February 11, 2012 - 08:00 PM GMT

History I am researching my maternal family history and from census records it shows that our family were living in Long Clawson between the above dates. If anyone knows of any decendants of the above relatives still in the Long Clawson/Hickling area, I'd really like to know. The names I've got are : Roger, Susan, George, Robert, Elizabeth, Thomas, William, Eliza, Jane, Frances/Fanny, Isaac, Ann, Martha, Laura Idonia or just Idonia. These names all re-occur during the 40 years of the census'. If anyone does know of any males who have the surname MANN and still live in the area, I'd love to hear from them.

My e'mail is - philip-anne@ntlworld.com
Many thanks.

Sarah Ann Widdowson

History I'm looking for information about my maternal grandmother, Sarah Ann Widdowson born c 1887 who lived near Melton Mowbray (Hose?). 1891 Census shows person of this name, aged 3, at Clawson with widowed mother Sarah, brother James and sister Elizabeth.

She married William Howard Goodman who may also have links to Hose. They moved to Glasgow c1910 to work with Collins printers.

Any advice?

Please add your comments below.

Many thanks
