Does anyone have any information on the Railway Station ?

A user of the website, Stephen, would like to copy any information people may have - such as photographs. The following information is from Stephen.

Long Clawson and Hose station opened on 1st Sept 1879 and was served by trains from Leicester to Gratham - around 6 per day, also Northampton/Mk Harbro to Nottingham trains - around 5 per day. The station was near the tunnel (still there) and was closed on 7 Dec 1953.

The tunnel started at Landyke Lane and came into The Vale near Brockhill Hall

The line was also known as "The Holiday Line". Up to 1962 trains from Leicester Belgrave Road used to go to Skegness and Mablethorpe (no trace of this station remains). On the A607 the embankment remains . It went via Melton Mowbray North station crossing Nottingham Road next to the fire station crossing Scalford Road on the north side of the cattlemarket. It crossed back over Scalford Road in the dip outside the village. It dives under a bridge at the bottom of Harby Hill and crosses Long Lane near Stathern. Hope this helps
